The essence of photography is to catch the light. This is what makes photography an art form, which is especially important in these dark times. Our mission at Fotografiskas is to support artists and ensure that their voices are heard, as well as to showcase the world\u2019s diverse palette. At a time when war is raging on the territory of Ukraine, just a few hundred kilometres from Estonia, it is time to turn our eyes towards Ukrainian photographers. We will show the work of 7 artists, men and women of different ages, experiences and backgrounds, while their lives are filled with violence. Through images and words, they tell us about their relationship with this war, their daily lives, their fears, their grief but also their hopes for the future. Our sincere thanks go to the photographers who, in these very difficult circumstances, found the time to make this project happen with us. The project was made in collaboration with Eric Schlosser, Artistic Director of the Tbilisi Art Fair. When I spend time in Dunkirk, I don\u2019t want to photograph the places that show historic parts of the city. I just want to show a beach out of time, that saw everything before this very moment. When I will visit Bucha, next to my hometown, I don\u2019t want to show destroyed building, I just want to show something inside me, silence, nostalgia. We are all tired now.<\/p>\n I could compare my practice with the art of haiku<\/p>\n At the battlefield An old silent pond I do not plan projects, I work with beautiful light and interesting landscapes.\u00a0My approach is very easy. I take my camera with me everywhere<\/p>\n Today, my wife, 2 young kids and I are refugees. When the war started my dear friend let us live in her home in Khmelnytskyi. Our city was being bombed. Few days before the war, I returned from Sweden, after visiting Fotografiska Museum. I just had Ian exhibition in Berlin, I\u2019m trying to work and participate in activities that raise money for Ukraine. But it\u2019s not enough. And the bombs are still falling on Ukraine, every minute of every hour. All Ukrainians are in now in limbo.
